Simple Budget - A minimalist budgeting app without the noise
Simple Budget is a free, manual budgeting app for people who want a clear view of their money without bank imports, automation, or subscriptions. You set your income, add budget items grouped into buckets and categories, and see monthly and annual totals at a glance.
I built it because every tool I tried was either too complex, too opinionated, or demanded more attention than my actual budget.
Why another budgeting app?
I have tried spreadsheets, desktop apps, and most of the popular subscription tools. They all work, but none of them fit the way I think about money.
Spreadsheets are flexible, but I do not want to maintain formulas and cell references. Full-featured apps want to import every transaction, categorise everything automatically, and ping me with notifications. I just want to know what is coming in, what is going out, and what is left.
So I made something smaller.
What it does
Simple Budget is built around three ideas:
- Buckets. Group spending the way you actually think about it: rent, subscriptions, groceries, travel.
- Categories. Tag items across multiple categories so one subscription can be work, personal, or shared.
- Clarity. Monthly and annual views at a glance, with no formulas to break.
You set your income, add your budget items, and see the totals. That is it. No bank connection required. No transaction import. No noise.
Manual by design
A lot of budgeting apps try to automate everything. For some people that is perfect. For me, it creates more noise than it removes. I wanted a tool where I enter the numbers myself, understand them, and move on.
Everything is stored securely against your Google account. You can export your full budget as JSON whenever you want, and deleting your account removes every record.
What is next
For now, Simple Budget is a personal project. I am using it myself and sharing it with people who want the same thing: a clear view of their money without a learning curve.
